Gardening Projects
The PTA Gardening Team have looked at ways to utilise and enhance the wonderful outside space at Hayes Primary School. In particular, we have created "points of interest" on the field to facilitate Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL). These include log circles on the field to provide defined seating/meeting space for small groups and purchase and placement of fence panels for den building. We have also facilitated bigger projects to provide outdoor learning opportunities for subjects such as science, art and many more! Our bigger projects include creating Bee & Butterfly Gardens in the planters on the field with Years 1 - 6 and developing the Millennium Garden.
Our bulb planting in the Autumn is always a huge success with every child planting a Spring bulb in a chosen location on our beautiful school field. In 2021, BEECHE (Bromley Environmental Education) visited our school and suggested we turn parts of the field and the mound into unmown nature friendly areas with plants and flowers to attract a world of amazing wildlife. In response to this, parent volunteers assisted the school to enable children from all year groups to scatter poppy and yellow rattle seeds in these areas and it didn't take long for us to see some good results from everyone’s hard work.
