Day Trips and Residential Trips
At Hayes Primary School, we believe that purposeful learning experiences happen as a result of positive relationships between children and staff, an appropriate, purposeful activity and the location and time where an activity takes place. Therefore, learning experiences outside the classroom environment have a crucial role to play in the curriculum we offer.
Research in this area suggests that learning beyond the limits of the classroom, as part of a planned approach, may:
- Increase attainment in specific subjects.
- Impact positively on the health and well-being of young people.
- Help develop responsible citizens and lifelong appreciation of the natural world.
- Improve the social and communication skills of young people.
- Effectively weave together many of the strands of education for sustainable development.

School Trips
Throughout the year, year groups will plan trips to relevant places linked with various aspects of the curriculum to support learning experiences.
As a school we ensure that trips are meaningful and feed in to the children curriculum learning.
We regularly review our trips to ensure that they are suitable and of high quality. For all trips with a cost, we ensure that the trip is financially viable and we ask for a donation towards the cost and aim to offer financial support where appropriate.
Residential School Journeys
We have two main opportunities for residential school trips at Hayes Primary School. In year 4, the children go to Hindleap Warren for a two night stay and in year 6, the children go to Bawdsey Manor for a four night stay.
Hindleap Warren
Hindleap Warren is an activity centre run by London Youth in East Sussex. The centre provides a range of activities, including, archery, orienteering, climbing, team building games etc.
Bawdsey Manor
Bawdsey Manor is a PGL activity centre in Suffolk. The centre provides a range of activities, including, beach walks, climbing, areoball, fencing, sensory trails etc.
We regularly review our residential trips and act on feedback given by children and parents. Before each residential, parents are given an opportunity to attend a meeting to find out more about it and financial support is offered if there is a need.
